Bulldog Tours' Charleston Tour Guides

AL  Masterful tour guide.  Been touring the historic haunted streets of Charleston for almost 20 years now.  Native Charlestonian which translates into "Yes, he knows an astronomical amount of entertaining ghost stories".

Charleston Ghost Tour Guide Anna

ANNA is more than a loud, fun, happy go lucky cat lover.  She's one of the best ghost tour guides to grace the hallowed streets of Charleston.

BARBARA is a docent in one of Charleston's most haunted mansions by day, and a Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Tour Guide by night.  When not giving tours, Barbara is busy with her WWF Memorabilia store on E-Bay.

Charleston Ghost Tour Guide - Brad

BRAD.  Tour Guide Extraordinaire.  Law Student.  Ladies Man.  And to his father's dismay, Brad often spends more time with the ladies than with the law.

BRAXTON  How such a hospitable hunk (and 9th Generation Charlestonian) found giving tours a calling will always remain a mystery at Bulldog Tours.  Don't let the pretty face fool you though, Braxton had a group of middle schoolers so scared on the Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Tour that they ran out of the cemetary all the way to the bus four blocks away.  Refunding 20 kids for "scaring them too much" . . . . . . priceless. Well, actually, it was $160 but well worth it.

BRITNEY  Scary as hell, yes.  Part of our tours, unfortunately no.

BROOKE is not only an amazing tour guide but also Charleston's best dressed cowgirl.  She is a native of Texas which explains the love of country/western music and line dancing, neither of which are included in her amazing Ghost & Dungeon Tour.  In her spare time she can be found volunteering at the Edmonston-Alston House, shopping on King Street, or touring with the Charleston Culinary Tours.

CATHERINE & TRACIE  are the brains of Bulldog.  By the way, Catherine's husband Brad is a groupie for New Kids on the Block and that's scarier than any ghost tour you'll get at Bulldog Tours.

CATHY has been walking the streets for money for almost 15 years - strictly as a tour guide.  Not only can Cathy name over 100 different flowers in Charleston, she can tell a ghost story that will make the most cynical ghost "non believers" question the supernatural.  Her favorite tour is the Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Walking Tour which has been featured in/on The Travel Channel, CMT, USA Today, Southern Living, and the Northwestern South Dakota Farmer's Gazette

CATOE. . . . . is like no other.  While his aristocratic pedigree dates back to Pre-Revolutionary Charleston, he is anything but refined.  A phenomenal veteran tour guide that will amaze, educate, shock, and mystify those who take his DARK SIDE OF CHARLESTON TOUR!!  Warning:  All men are advised to keep close tabs on your girl when in the presence of David Catoe.

CLARA is a native of Athens, GA, making her an instant Bulldog (Univ. of GA).  Arrived in Charleston 20+ years ago, did the "corporate thang", and has now found her calling as a ghost tour guide.  Clara is a master of the Ghost & Dungeon, Graveyard, and the occasional history tour.  Don't let her innocent Southern drawl fool you, she's a closeted wild woman.

DAVID is a native Charlestonian, school teacher, father, husband, handyman, tour guide of 13 years, and one of Charleston's most sought after Blues Drummers.  David has played with the likes of BB King, Muddy Waters, and Delbert McClinton.  Truly, one of the best story tellers to ever grace the streets and alleyways of Charleston's Haunted/Historic district.

ELY was a shoe-in to be a tour guide here at Bulldog Tours.  His career as a Charleston County Sheriff provided him with enough gore, grime, and horror to fill dozens of Stephen King novels.  Ely is a native Charlestonian, ex Navy sailor, ex-Sheriff, witness to numerous autopsies, murders, and tourture, and gives one heck of a Dark Side of Charleston adult history tour.  And when he tires of adult history, he can be found prowling the streets of Charleston on a ghost tour.

PS - ask him to sing to ya, it'll make you think Merle Haggard joined a church choir.

FRANNY, a native of Upstate South Carolina, currently resides on Isle of Palms where she continues her search for sea shells, a better way of life, and surfer dudes.  She is a graduate of The University of Georgia and a master storyteller.  Her hobbies include tennis, world travel, double martinis, and church socials.  Giving tours at Charleston Ghost & Dungeon is merely a way for Franny to explore her evil side.

GEORGE left The Empire State in search of warmer weather, prettier women, better golf, and eternal bliss.  These goals were met within minutes of his arrival in Charleston and he hasn't looked back.  George has been roaming the haunted alleyways of Charleston for many years and has dazzled thousands with his "Ghost 101" tour.

GEORGE W is currently not a tour guide for Charleston's premier walking tour company.  Yale's mascot is a Bulldog so we're pretty sure it's just a matter of time.

GINGER is a native of the Palmetto State, mother of two, wife of a lunatic (sorry Dennis), animal lover, carriage driver, and an excellent tour guide.  She is rather versatile in that she gives the Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Tour, Ghost & Graveyard Tour, Haunted Jail, as well as Charleston history tours.  Ginger's guilty pleasure. . . . . collecting truck stop paraphernalia.  As proof of her Southern roots, Ginger's first car was an IROC Camaro.

"HOON" is not only the quintessential "Southern Gentleman", he is also one of the most dynamic ghost tour guides in town.  A native of the Deep South, Hoon is a world traveler, avid historian, computer wizard, financial genius, and also somewhat of a fashion icon in Charleston.  Sister Sledge describes him best, "He wears the finest clothes, the best designers, heaven knows, ooh, from his head down to his toes.  Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci.  He looks like a still.  That man is dressed to kill."  $5 off your tour if you can tell us what song that lyric is from!

JANICE use to scare people by carrying a Smith & Wesson 357 (former cop).  Thankfully for Bulldog Tours, she traded in her Peace Keeper for a license to give ghost tours and now just scares people with her stories.

I pitty da fool that ever crosses this woman.

JACKSON DANE LAVERNE.  Future (2025) Tour Guide.  Will take Charleston by storm as soon as he gets potty trained.  Hobbies include fits of anger, middle of the night feedings, Baby Einstein toys, and entertaining his fan club (Mom, Dad, Papa, Nan, Nanu, & Hattie).

JOHN LAVERNE.  Tour Guide.  Thrill Seeker.  Winner of the 2nd Grade Spelling Bee.

JOHN RAY LAVERNE is Charleston's most eligible 16 year old bachelor.  John Ray stays busy charming the local surfer chicks with his guitar playin and hip fashion sense.  He is often forced to go "incognito" to avoid the paparazzi.  That's the price a kid pays when being stalked by Paris Hilton.

Not a tour guide yet but he will eventually dominate the streets of Charleston.  He currently chills at the office and keeps our computer's video games up to date.

JOHN ROSS arrived to Charleston compliments of a Navy destroyer many years ago.  He gave up his sea legs to enlighten Charleston's visitors to the ultimate in history and ghost tours.  A man of many talents, John gives a wide variety of tours.  John's charisma and good looks caught the eye of an undisclosed European heiress on a tour last summer.  She offered him a life of unlimited wealth to be her arm candy.  John's devotion to Charleston won.  She lost.  Too bad. . . . . Bulldog Tours really needs a corporate jet.

JIM:  Southern by way of Southern California and one of our most requested guides, especially by super models.  Not only is Jim a slave to fashion, he gives carriage tours for  Palmetto Carriage in the daytime - at night, he is one of Bulldog Tours' most entertaining story tellers.  Jim is multitalented and can be found doing the Charleston Stroll , Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Tour, Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Tour, or the Dark Side of Charleston Walking Tour.  His next project. . . . . . cold fusion.

JIM / POPPY  Looks are deceiving.  While this picture depicts Jim as a seriel killer, in person, he looks much kinder, much gentler.  His tours however, spot on scary and fun.  One of the most dedicated tour guides we've ever had.  Claims he loves his wife dearly yet he's always willing to get out of the house.  We'll just assume he enjoys sharing ghostly tales over the Honey Do List.

KAREN often makes even the most skeptical believe in ghosts.  She's a die-hard believer and her passion for ghost stories and legends is obvious.  Gave up her career slinging goods in our City Market.  Good Bye merchant life, hello Charleston's hidden haunted history!!

LANE was recently banned from The Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Tour for scaring the feint of heart.  The obvious choice was for Lane to just move on over to The Dark Side. . . . . of Charleston.  The Dark Side of Charleston is right up Lane's alley - make sure he tells you the story of Charleston's militant "free love" colony.  You will never see Lane giving the Historic Charleston Walking Tour - that tour has way too much flowers and fluff.

LARRY is a native of Ridgeville, a sleepy hollow about 25 miles from Chucktown.   Raised by a Gullah speaking nanny that told tales of voodoo and the supernatural. After years of therapy and countless bottles of local moonshine, Larry is now able to forward these stories to those that dare listen.  As we all know, ghost stories can often cause children to have nightmares and even wet their beds.  For the record, therapy can cure bed wetting.

SCARLETT (aka - "Ghost Bait")  Scarlett is a transplant Charlestonian, having been tragically born "on the wrong coast".  Her eclectic gypsy living has finally brough her home to "the right coast".  When not giving her tours, she is usually upsetting ghosts and experiencing their wrath (ask her about being strangled in the Dungeon and upsetting Sue Howard).  A lady of many talents, she works in the shop during the day (avoids the sunlight) and at night can be found giving any of our ghost tours or The Darkside of Charleston Adult History Tour.

LISA has been once of Charleston's most entertaining tour guides since 1990.  A local gal, graduate of the College of Charleston, and soon to be married to a guy unworthy of her love, Lisa is too cool to be forgotten.  She's breaking hearts all over America.

LAWRENCE is one of Charleston's most fascinating tour guides and definitely an asset to Bulldog Tours.  His tales of voodoo and Charleston's scariest ghost stories often leave the guests wanting an escort back to their hotel room.  When not scaring folks, Lawrence is usually romancing the ladies with style and fervor like no other.

LOUIS.  We know very little about Louis other than his phone number and that he gives one hell of a Ghost & Dungeon Tour.  Pretty sure he's in the Witness Protection Program.

NEAL is so Southern (12th Generation South Carolinian) he's his own cousin.  Graduate of College of Charleston's "Southern Studies" department. "Southern Studies" meaning subjects like Grits, Drag Racin', Bourbon & Beer, Banjo, and Cow Tippin.  Do your parents have another $50k they would like to invest?

Paul

PAUL"The Pirate" LAVERNE.  John LaVerne's nephew.  Paul looks innocent but trust me, he is bad to the bone.  Legend is, he once ate ice cream for breakfast then in a "sugar rage", crashed all his Hot Wheels into his Lego Fort.  Blackbeard, meet your match.

STEPHEN grew up in Maryland where he was taught he lived in the South.  He heard the siren call of the True South and moved in 1998, realizing he'd been lied to his entire life.  He's been doing tours ever since.  Stephen does ghost tours, carriage tours, house & garden tours, architecture tours, civil war tours, colonial tours and pirate tours.  When not giving tours, Stephen likes to sleep.

STEVIE BETROS is Bulldog Tours' Director of Security which is the equivalent of having a golden retriever as a watch dog.  Stevie is also the manager for Bishop England High School's basketball team and a Special Olympics gold medal winner (tennis, swimming, and basketball).  Stevie is a local celebrity and currently has 143,693 best friends.  Once you meet Stevie, we'll add you to the list.

SUSAN hails from Long Island but has immersed herself into the charm, excitment, and chaos of Charleston's historic district. . . . . . she's a tour guide for both the carriage tours and ghost tours.  She is a huge fan of this town's darker side (ghosts, goblins, spirits, Twinkies, etc.) which makes her a wonderful fit as a tour guide at Bulldog Tours.  While Susan specializes in the Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Walking Tour, she can also be found at the Dungeon or the Haunted Jail Tour.

SUSAN D's original calling was to be a school teacher.  After "lots and lots" of teaching she moved to Charleston to find herself still teaching kids but has added a new clientele (adults) and a new platform, Charleston's Haunted Historic District.  Other interests include Beanie Babies, cold fusion, cross-stich, quantum physics, acid rock, and cooking shows.  UPDATE - one of the most requested guides for the Charleston Culinary Tours

SUZANN hails from the great state of North Carolina via San Francisco.  Free spirited, nature lovin', guitar-wielding goddess of Mount Pleasant.  Specializes in the Haunted Jail Tour, the Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Walking Tour, Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Tour, and adult only hopscotch.

TAD LEGARE is a 6th generation Charlestonian that has given ghost tours since his college days (all 7 years).  In his spare time, Tad managed to become a self-made dot-com millionaire, revolutionize Charleston's "Digital Corridor", and for nine years in a row, make Charleston's Most Eligible Bachelor's List.  Now married, Tad gives ghost tours as an excuse to get out of the house and to "reconnect with the people".  And by "people" we mean "pretty girls."
